In my final design I have chosen to incorporate veins that stand out above the skin to create a varicose look of infection on my model. To create this look I was told by Sue to buy some Tuplast from Kryolan in order to create the structured vein shapes that I envisioned. This product sets on skin to form hard layers that you can change into scars as well as vein shapes. I decided to practice using the Tuplast on myself to figure out the best technique in application as well as how to colour them to look realistic. I started by drawing thin lines down my arm in the natural shape of my veins.
Once dry the Tuplast creates a matte layer on the skin which looks like scarring. I think that this is a good look as the shine on veins would make them seem fake and stand out too much.
I then used the supra colour palette to colour the veins using a pale teal colour and red. I like the blue colour around it however I feel like the red ended up looking unrealistic because I powdered over the top of the and the colour didn't look cohesive with the colour surrounding the veins. After more thought I want to make the veins blue and also practice them on the face without powdering them in order to create a more intense and real looking vein.
I was not very happy with the red toned veins and so I changed the colour to a green/ blue toned vein and I am much happier with the outcome of this. I used the same process as the previous test however I placed the supra colour on the arm before the tuplast to create a more naturalistic looking vein where the colour was coming from underneath the skin in appearance.
