- My interpretation of Dorian Gray is the drug addicted, disease riddled half human he has become after the years of abusing his own body with numerous drugs and sexual partners. Before Dorian stabbed the painting he was beautiful and never aged. In a previous blog post I have compared him to a vampire as his behaviour and characteristics reflect the charming ageless man who seduces women and men and has a blood lust and murderous streak within him that few people suspect. The way in which I view Dorian's character being portrayed on screen is through the use of raised, enlarged veins that show the infection and disease beneath his skin, he has begun to age, but the process of transition is not complete yet. I want to show the effects of his behaviour finally being portrayed on his face, rather than through the painting, which acts as his conscience and bares all the horrific acts Dorian commits on it's surface.
- I feel the character of Dorian Gray would be dressed in suits and top hats more often than not due to his socio- economic status in society, his clothes would look expensive and there would be lots of co-ordination as he takes pride in his appearance and knows how attractive he is. His make-up and hair before becoming a true reflection of his inner self would be flawless complexion, neat hair slicked back with no hair out of place and possibly sideburns to reflect the Victorian era. As he transitions his clothes would stay the same however the age and excessive drug abuse would slowly catch up to him.
- I think the audience of my character will definitely understand the ways in which Dorian will have transitioned as he would have aged, and as the content of the book includes very mature themes such as excessive drug use and various sexual acts with different people of each gender, the audience of my character would definitely understand the creative process I used and the research I have undertaken in order to create my interpretation of Dorian.
Dorian's Character Traits/ Personality:
- Charming
- Seductive
- promiscuous
- cold hearted
- cynical
- Privileged
- selfish
- vain
- evil
- corrupted
He would be very confident and charming to the innocent eye with a malevolent and devilish side underneath the exterior beauty.
FINAL DESIGN:
My Model:
(LEFT)
I chose this man to be my model of Dorian Gray as I feel his facial features and hair colour match the description intended for my final design. His hair is of adequate length to produce the Victorian inspired hairstyle I have designed and I think that his face in general will be good to put makeup on as he has a smooth complexion, like Dorian Gray, making it easier for me to produce a flawless skin look with ageing and other makeup effects on top.
