Dirty Teeth and Mud.

Equipment:
  • Cotton buds.
  • Hair dryer.

Products:
  • Supra-Colour palette.
  • Moisturiser.
  • Fuller's Earth (and water).
  • Kryolan Colour Sprays.
  • Kryolan Tooth Enamel (in black and 'nicotine' colours).
  • Surgical Spirit.

Health and Safety:

  • Clean and tidy workspace.
  • Cover model over to prevent fallout from products.
  • Only use a tiny bit of Surgical Spirit to avoid tooth enamel it being ingested.
  • Use the colour sprays in a large, aired space and advise model to hold their breath while it is spraying to stop inhalation.
  • Make sure to test the hairdryer temperature on yourself first to stop it melting any products or hurting the model.

Technique: Mud.

  • To create dirt colour mix red, yellow and black supra colour to make a muddy looking shade of brown.
  • Either using a brush or your hands, smudge and blend the muddy colour into hands or any other desired part of the body.
  • Make sure to get into the creases of the hands to create continuous line and colour. In order to look realistic.
  • To create a thicker mud covered hand, you can use fuller's earth mixed with water. This will create an uneven appearance, as mud does. It is suggested that for this you use your hands to blend and rub it in because this will just get stuck into your brushes.
  • Dry this with a warm hair dryer in order to create cracked mud appearance.
Technique: Dirty teeth.
  • To create missing or rotten teeth dry the model's tooth with a cotton bud for easier application.
  • Dip a cotton bud in tooth enamel and paint onto tooth.
  • To remove this, dip a cotton bud in surgical spirit and gentle wipe the enamel paint away.

I am happy with the overall outcome of the mud and hand practice however with the teeth, I feel as though choosing to dry the bottom teeth caused problems with the enamel as it was hard to keep them dry because of saliva. This caused the enamel to fall off and not stick properly. In future I will apply dirty  teeth more carefully and on the top teeth in order to prevent wasting products and to create an effective look.
